Taking care of koi through winter is an important aspect of koi keeping. Prepare your koi for winter by winterizing your pond with a de-icer or pond heater or by bringing your koi inside, into a heated quarantine tank. Pond de-icers provide an opening in ice to allow harmful gases to escape through. Heating a pond will lessen the risk of koi disease, but may consume a large amount of energy in colder climates.
